Home prices rise during warm winter

Across the country, this winter has been unusually warm. And this surprising weather has had an equally surprising effect on the housing market; according to Clear Capital’s Home Data Index report, there has been an overall increase in home prices across the U.S.

According to RISMedia, the South and West experienced an increase of 1.0 percent, higher than the national average of a .9 percent increase.

Clear Capital’s Vice President of Research and Analytics, Alex Villacorta explained, “Following several rounds of healthy, peak-season summer growth, winter gains thus far this season have remained relatively healthy across much of the country. As prices have continued to climb in the long term during the post-housing crash, the large portion of the housing market that has been frozen in negative equity has shrunk significantly – meaning that an increasingly large portion of previously underwater homeowners may now have the option of entering the market.”
