SXSW kicked off yesterday with conference sessions, music festival showcases, and Film Festival screenings. After last year’s cancellation due to the Coronavirus pandemic, 2021, SXSW Online 2021 is offering a digital experience from March 16-20, 2021.
This year’s SXSW includes elements of each SXSW festival from the conferences, music festivals, film festivals, comedy shows, and more. In order to participate in the said event, an SXSW Online Pass can be purchased at SXSW’s website which will give you all access to all of the music and comedy showcases, sessions, film screening, online exhibitions, and workshops. You can also dive into the SXSW Online XR program where you can go on a journey into the virtual version of iconic Austin locations and experience a wide array of XR programming during SXSW 2021 which will also include live panels, special events, and a selection of 360° videos from the Virtual Cinema program plus a 2D video feed of the SXSW programming.

MUSIC FESTIVAL
The SXSW 2021 Music Festival showcases a renowned and up-coming diverse range of artists from all around the world. The SXSW Music Festival Showcase takes place from March 16-20 between 2:30 pm and 10:00 pm CT. Some of the showcasing arts are the following:

FILM FESTIVAL
This year’s 28th SXSW Film Festival, filmmakers, press, industry leaders, will have the opportunity to experience film screenings, sessions, meetups, and special events through the Online XR platform. From March 16 to 18, the Film Festival will premiere new films every two hours from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm CT.
Headliners for this year are Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, Alone Together, Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free. For the Narrative Feature Competition where eight world premieres are eight unique ways to celebrate the art of storytelling, Here Before (United Kingdom), I’m Fine (Thanks for Asking), Islands (Canda), Our Father, Potato Dreams of America, The End of Us, The Fallout, and Women is Losers are featured.
Other films from various screening sections are also featured such as Alien on Stage, The End of Us, Kid Candidate, Islands, Paul Dood’s Deadly Lunch Break, Sound of Violence,
Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror, and Fruits of Labor. The full list can be found in their 2021 Film Lineup.
Be reminded that all shorts, film special events, and Virtual Cinema selections are available globally, but most features are geo-fenced to the U.S. by the rights and/or filmmaker or distributor discretion. On these links, you’d be able to find films that have Global Access and U.S. Access.
