Blog > Here’s What NOT To Do When Listing Your House
RISMedia has provided one of the most helpful, pared down lists The JW Team has seen in a while. What is it about, you ask?
Why, the 4 things you should NOT do when listing your house for sale!
The first one may come as a surprise. DON’T over-improve. Only make necessary fixes and improvements to your home. If you start adding personalized upgrades specific to your taste, you might lose potential buyers.
The second rule is DON’T over-decorate. It’s hard to picture a home with your own furniture and belongings in it when it has trinkets and tchotchkes all over. You want potential buyers to walk in and immediately know what piece of their own furniture should go where.
Third rule – DON’T hang around. Potential buyers won’t be able to get a good feel for the home or feel comfortable if the current owners are in the house. It’s awkward to judge someone’s home knowing they’re one room away from you.
Fourth rule – DON’T take things personally! Everyone has their own tastes and opinions. If one potential buyer doesn’t like your home, that doesn’t mean that the next 3 visitors won’t fall in love with it!
