10 of the Best Neighborhoods in North Austin:
Allandale
Just north of downtown is the neighborhood of Allandale. It’s a quiet and close knit community with a wide variety of ages and families. The mix of both old and new architecture make the area look unique. With the neighborhood being close to downtown with highways just minutes away, Allandale is a great location.
Brentwood
One of the oldest neighborhoods on this list is Brentwood. Having been around for half a century, soldiers coming back from WW2 had purchased houses in this neighborhood. Being around for so long, many would say that Brentwood has the closest knit community among all neighborhoods in Austin.
Crestview
Crestview is the epitome of an Austin neighborhood. It’s old and laid back nature gives its residents a very welcoming feel. Since it’s been around for over 60 years, a mix of old homes and families have been welcoming a newer generation. The neighborhood also has many local restaurants and shops nearby.
Georgian Acres
This neighborhood is perfect for first time homebuyers. Georgian Acres is one of the more inexpensive areas on this list with plenty of modest sized homes. The neighborhood is located in between north central Austin and I-35, making a commute a breeze. There are also plenty of restaurants and shops on the outskirts of the area.
Gracy Woods
Gracy Woods is known for being one of the greenest neighborhoods in Austin. There is an abundance of green spaces and trails to explore for nature lovers. Situated between two highways, this area is very convenient for a commute. Just north of the neighborhood there are shopping centers with restaurants and anything else you could possibly need.
Highland
Best known for the Highland Mall, which is now basically run down, is the Highland neighborhood. The quiet area is full of modest single family homes. With ball fields, playgrounds, and parks just west of the neighborhood, it’s a great place to raise a family. The area is also right near I-35 and 290 making it convenient to get around the city.
North Burnet
North Burnet is an older neighborhood with a ton of new urban development. With not a lot of green spaces, the area has a ton of residential and commercial property. This neighborhood is also categorized by the large number of apartment complexes in the area. With tons of restaurants and shopping in the area, the neighborhood is perfect for young adults or couples.
North Lamar
North Lamar is another old neighborhood that many Austinites know about. There is a ton of retail space in the area filled with shops and restaurants. It’s a pretty inexpensive area with a lot to do and a lot going on. I-35 is nearby for any longer drives or commutes.
North Loop
North Loop is one of the most unique neighborhoods in North Austin! The area holds older residents that have been there for decades, young adults , and even students. Being so close to the UT campus, both the older and younger generation mix to develop the North Loop community. Local restaurants and shops are sprinkled through the area that make the neighborhood residents come together.
North Shoal Creek
The last neighborhood on the list is the older and established area of North Shoal Creek. The neighborhood features everything you could possibly want. Including local restaurants and shops, department stores and even a movie theater. It’s a quieter neighborhood, but if you’re looking to go out, downtown is a quick drive away since the area is right next to major highways.
