Gearing up for Spring Fling

by The JW Team March 27, 2019

On April 7th we are hosting our annual Spring Fling event, benefiting our partners at Addicus Legacy Dog Rescue. We will have a live band, great food and drink that has been graciously donated, and a silent auction full of amazing prizes donated from local businesses and community members.

The mission of Addicus’ Legacy Dog Rescue is to save the lives of dogs sitting on death row in Texas shelters. Approximately 37% of Texas dogs who enter a kill shelter never leave, and it is Addicus’ mission to give those dogs a chance at life. Through a system of fundraising, volunteering, and fostering Addicus is able to rescue over 400 dogs from kill shelters in Texas every year, provide medical care, and find forever homes. Addicus’ is 100% run by volunteers, many of whom volunteer 20-40 hours a week. Each rescue story begins when they scan shelter pages daily to see which dogs are in danger of being put down. In Texas there are thousands of dogs posted every day. After they decide which dogs they can help, the long process of getting them into a home begins. It involves organizing transportation to a loving foster home, which is often hundreds of miles away. Addicus’ Legacy thoroughly vets each dog before they are adopted out, and many times their medical care necessitates heartworm treatment, surgery for broken legs and injuries, treatment for mange and many more medical issues. They work with an animal behaviorist to make sure all pups are ready to assimilate into their new family home.

Addicus’ Legacy recently extended their rescue efforts to the illegal dog meat trade in Thailand, and were able to rescue four dogs- bringing them to Texas to find forever homes.

Our annual Spring Fling event is how we the JW Team help Addicus’ Legacy raise donations and awareness for their amazing mission. If you would like to attend this event please RSVP here .

If you are unable to attend but would like to help us help Addicus’ Legacy, monetary donations can be made on Addicus’ Website.
